First year of Riga Ghetto museum
On September 21, 2011 we celebrate first birthday of Riga Ghetto and Latvian Holocaust museum. About 4 000 visitors attended the museum this year. Amongst them were President of Latvia Andris Berzinsh, minister of culture Sarmite Elerte, Riga mayor Nil Ushakov and vice-mayor Andris Ameriks, Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Douglas Davidson, participants of the music competition “New wave”, ambassadors, businessmen and politicians.
We continue reconstruction of the house from Riga ghetto on the territory of the museum. The framework and roof are completed. World widely known architect Daniel Libeskind (USA) is invited for design of the museum building itself (about 700 m2).
A number of scientific projects were implemented. Translation of M. Kaufmann memoir “Churbn Lettland” into Russian and Latvian is almost completed. Research of evacuees’ cards is started in the National archive; digitalization of Jewish press is going on etc.
The museum is not able to survive without your support. We need your donations to finish reconstruction of the wooden house, to continue renovation of the main building and to add new exhibitions to the museum.
