About 2005 year contest “Children of Latvia Draw Old Sinagogues”
In year 2005 “Shamir” community arranged a drawing contest within the framework of big project “Latvia. Synagogues and Rabbis” dedicated to the memory of rabbi Nathan Barkan. More then 160 Latvian children from 20 schools took part in this event with 160 works.
All participants of the contest were awarded- their works where published in a special catalogue. Winners of a first prize gained the big prize from Council of Latvian Jewish Communities – a trip to Prague. On 21 February 2006, the exhibition "Latvian Children Draw the Old Synagogues" was opened at the Jerusalem Jewish Heritage Centre "Hechal Shlomo" also providing information on Latvian Jews. The exhibition was opened by the President of Latvia, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, and the President of the State of Israel, Moshe Katsay. Works of 30 pupils took part in it. The works where also presented by Artis Pabriks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs at 60-th UN Assambley. |
